The site optimises access to existing offers by making them more visible and more accessible.
The portal is built modularly. The following modules and partner projects constitute the site:
The Swiss literary portal aims to nationally pool quality-checked resources in the fields of literature and book trade and to promote them beyond language and national boundaries. LiteraturSchweiz wants to facilitate the access to Swiss literature.
This notion subsumes all the literature that has been produced in Switzerland and/or by Swiss authors, in all the national languages, and in all genres reaching from prose, poetry, theatre and essay writing to children's and youth literature and to new forms such as Spoken Word.
Additional features will be incorporated gradually in order to grow the literary portal into an integrative platform for competence and promotion of Swiss literature.
SwissLiterature represents the Swiss literary scene in all its variety. The internet portal is commercially independent and is constituted by 14 renowned organisations, institutions and associations of the Swiss literary scene. They merged into a supporting association in order to allow for a sustainable organisational structure and to ensure the long-term enterprise of the portal.
Thanks to this unique cooperation SwissLiterature is on its way to become an important brand for Swiss literature.
SwissLiterature is an initiative of the association of authors in Switzerland AdS in collaboration with Beat Mazenauer.
It dates back to discussions held in October 2009 in the context of the Swiss Coalition for Cultural Diversity. In the final report called "Cultural Diversity - more than a slogan. Proposals for the implementation in Switzerland of the UNESCO Convention on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions" a literary portal was one of the claims:
"The Confederation should support the development, commissioning and marketing of a broad network internet platform covering the Swiss literary scene."
This is what brought forth swissliterature.ch.
